Overview

A vacancy has arisen for a Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Manger to join our large retail site in Cross Hands.  This role will provide both operational and strategic support to the site leadership team, on all matters relating to the health, safety and environmental wellbeing of the site, in order to ensure that the site delivers on its corporate objectives. The role will report directly into the Site Director, with a dotted line into the Head of Health & Safety UK.

Responsibilities

  • To provide professional assistance and advice on all matters relating to health, safety, and fire legislation.
  • To support the management team with the achievement of the site health, safety & environmental KPI’s and performance objectives.
  • To work with Line Managers to conduct and complete all site related risk assessments, in order to identify key risks and make recommendations to reduce such risks.
  • To produce and implement site specific safe working practices.
  • To carry out and complete specialist risk assessments such as Manual Handling, COSHH, Fire and DSE.
  • To conduct detailed accident investigations and recommend commercial solutions to the management team, aiming to prevent re occurrences and reduce future accidents and incidents.
  • To conduct a detailed analysis of all health & safety related training requirements and produce a comprehensive training matrices by role, to ensure that records are maintained and refresher training is completed.
  • To actively monitor emergency procedures and site fire safety arrangements relating to colleagues, visitors and contractors, in line with the site fire safety policy and procedures.
  • To undertake monthly site inspections, report any findings and/or deficiencies to the management team and make recommendations for improvement.
  • To assist with site health & safety specific training requirements, delivering in house health and safety training programs as and when required.
  • To take responsibility for reporting incidents classified under RIDDOR to the HSE, responding to any correspondence and taking follow-up actions as required.
  • To support the Site Operations Manager / Director, by facilitating the site health & safety committee meetings.
  • To produce and maintain accurate site accident data that will feed into the required Group accident information reports, identifying any trends and taking positive action with the management team to reduce them.
  • Responsible for filing and maintaining any health & safety documentation required for inspection by external auditors or HSE/Fire authority inspectors.
  • To collect and prepare information for our insurers in relation to any civil claims received.
  • To identify and fulfil first aid training requirements, also ensuring that there are sufficient first aid supplies at site in the event of any first aid emergencies.
  • To support the site maintenance teams with statutory inspections and PPM programs, to ensure that all machinery is safe to use in line with legislative requirements.
  • To assist with the monitoring of contractors on site and the control of permit to work systems for high-risk activities, ensuring that all contractors are approved and meet the necessary health & safety requirements.
  • To monitor compliance with environmental permits and act on any corrective actions, to the site remains within the parameters of any consents given.
  • To prepare and manage any ISO Environmental surveillance audits or Environmental Agency/Natural Resources Wales site inspections.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of three years’ experience in a Health & Safety Managerial role, preferably in Food Manufacturing.
  • NEBOSH National Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety or Equivalent Qualification.
  • Have a good commercial approach to managing business risk.
  • Good negotiating and self organisation skills.
  • Ability to produce detailed reports and numerical information.
