Overview

The Meat Buyer will interface with the Management team in Cross Hands to understand and fully appreciate the site requirements, source the range of options and deliver complete, to time and to specification – liaising accordingly with planning, NPD, technical, operations, sales, marketing and finance.

 

Responsibilities

Daily/weekly duties:

  • Coordinating the purchase of products and materials on behalf of the business.
  • Tracking orders.
  • Scheduling deliveries.
  • Ensuring stock levels are maintained at all times.
  • Delivering on Company Mission, Vision & Values.
  • Working closely with the Management Team to drive efficiency and effectiveness within the department, while ensuring that we maintain quality standards and adherence to specifications.
  • Working constructively with all departments inclusive of Food Safety & Quality, NPD, Stores and Production.
  • Maintaining strong working relationships with suppliers and establish long term relationships when it is beneficial to the Company
  • Reviewing purchasing agreements with suppliers and maintain open lines of communication.
  • Developing an active process for measuring supply inventory and determining purchasing needs based on quarterly and annual numbers
  • Comparing product deliveries with issued purchase orders and deal with any discrepancies.

THIS ROLE INCLUDES THE REQUIREMENT FOR WEEKEND AVAILABILITY BY PHONE AND EMAIL. 

 

 

Qualifications

  • Food industry experience, preferably in a Purchasing/Stores role.
  • Exposure to the understanding of retail food manufacturing.
  • Able to work successfully on their own initiative and also work well as part of a team.
  • Highly motivated, process driven and with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Organisational skills to enable the management and development of multiple tasks.
  • Confidence to manage suppliers and key stake holders in a fast-paced environment.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal at all levels.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team and on your own initiative.
  • Willing to build knowledge base above and beyond core experience.
