Overview

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who has skills and experience and wants to take an exciting next step in their career.  The successful candidate will be the on-site expert in packaging material technologies and solutions, driving innovation and collaboration across multiple disciplines including NPD, operations, technical, supply chain, and commercial teams.

 

You will lead packaging briefs and projects, manage validation approvals, and deliver sustainable, cost-effective solutions that meet both business and customer needs.

Responsibilities

Reporting into the Group Packaging Development team, this role is responsible for developing and overseeing the following areas:

 

  • Understand and manage packaging applications and specifications for all site packaging.
  • Trial new materials and technologies to improve shelf life, sustainability, and cost efficiency.
  • Manage validation approvals and deliver value engineering projects.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers.
  • Act as packaging expert in cross-functional teams to deliver business goals.
  • Lead solutions for packaging challenges across teams and suppliers
  • Produce prototypes and samples for testing.
  • Support customer-facing activities by presenting packaging solutions, attending customer meetings, and responding to packaging-related queries.
  • Collaborate with Group teams on projects to deliver more sustainable solutions.

Qualifications

  • Diploma in Packaging Technology and/or relevant experience as a Packaging Technologist desirable.
  • Experience in project management, including creating and managing critical paths.
  • Highly organised, able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of packaging standards, legislation, and compliance requirements.
  • Experience in packaging of fresh and frozen protein (desirable but not essential).
  • Knowledge of plastic polymer science.
  • Experience with rigid trays and paper-based packaging (corrugate, solid board) desirable.
  • Familiarity with various print technologies and processes.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with ability to work cross-functionally.
  • Computer literate.
  • Full valid driving licence and flexibility to travel across multiple sites and suppliers.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-moving environment with change and high expectations.

 

The role incumbent will be responsible for the following:

 

  • Building positive relationships with colleagues, managers and other departments, utilising these positive relationships to assist delivery of results
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with Group and Site Management Teams, establishing two-way communication and accurate provision of information to support the efficient running and continuous improvement of the function.
  • Liaise with the planning department to ensure packaging is procured, ordered and delivered within specified timeframes.
  • Support NPD in the approval process of new products.
  • Ensure data is compiled and reviewed for trends analysis.
  • Be an ambassador for the site at all times, behaving in a professional and courteous manner with both internal and external customers.
