Overview

We are actively seeking applications from individuals keen to take up a career within one of Europe’s leading food processing companies. This is an exciting opportunity to join a well-established team, who have a desire to produce better food naturally.

You’ll be the on‑shift guardian of food safety, product integrity, and quality compliance in a fast‑paced, high‑volume meat processing environment. As the Food Safety & Quality Shift Manager, you’ll lead the site’s technical standards during your shift, ensuring every product leaving the factory meets customer, legal, and brand expectations.

This role is ideal for someone who thrives on the factory floor, enjoys problem‑solving in real time, and can influence teams to do the right thing even under pressure.

Responsibilities

  • Lead all food safety, quality, and hygiene activities during your shift, acting as the senior technical authority on site.
  • Ensure full compliance with BRCGS, customer codes of practice, HACCP, and internal QMS requirements.
  • Conduct on‑shift audits, GMP checks, traceability exercises, and allergen verifications.
  • Manage non‑conformances, root‑cause investigations, and corrective actions with pace and accuracy.
  • Manage teams to maintain high standards of hygiene, CCP monitoring, and documentation.
  • Escalate risks promptly and make decisions that protect product safety and brand reputation.
  • Coach and develop QA Technicians, driving a culture of continuous improvement and right‑first‑time behaviours.
  • Collaborate with Technical, Production, Engineering, and Hygiene to resolve issues and prevent recurrence.
  • Ensure accurate and timely completion of all shift reports and handovers.

Qualifications

  • Experience in food manufacturing, ideally meat, chilled, or high‑risk environments.
  • Understanding of HACCP, food safety legislation, and retailer standards.
  • Confident decision‑maker with the ability to challenge and influence at all levels.
  • Comfortable working in a fast‑moving, high‑pressure production environment.
  • Excellent communication, organisation, and problem‑solving skills.
  • A relevant qualification in Food Science, Food Technology, or similar is desirable.
  • HACCP Level 2 and Food Safety Level 2 (or above) preferred.
